about
GET BACK UP brings to life meaningful stories of athletes, teams and sports figures whose work on and off the field impacts, informs and inspires global culture and society.
We specialize in discovering stories of extraordinary athletes throughout the world who have life journeys that speak to the broader human condition, then transforming those stories into powerful, moving narratives that connect with a global audience via TV, film, video and audio platforms.
TEAM
Get Back Up was founded by writer, producer, journalist, and athlete Andrew Lewellen. As a screenwriter, Andrew has developed projects for HBO, NBC Universal, ABC, eOne, and other distributors. Previously, he was Contributing Writer for ESPN: The Magazine and wrote about sports for publications including The New York Times, Grantland.com, Los Angeles Magazine and the National Football League, along with having 15 years of experience in digital media.
His passion for telling stories about sports is born out of his life as a fan and athlete. Born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, near Detroit, Andrew grew up a huge fan of University of Michigan and Detroit pro sports teams like The Fab Five, The Detroit “Bad Boys” Pistons, and Barry Sanders’ Detroit Lions. Andrew channeled his love for sports into his athletic career, playing Division I soccer at a top 25 team (Wake Forest), then coaching the sport.
He brings to writing and producing the perspective of an athlete, and he approaches stories with compassion, curiosity and respect, working to bring to life unique and meaningful stories of athletes whose lives and experiences on and off the field speak to broader issues in society.
